Obituary for Russell E. Schaefer
Russell E. Schaefer, 77, of Shenango Township passed away the morning of March 15, 2023 at UPMC Jameson.
Born on January 19, 1946 in Melrose Park, Illinois, Russ was the son of the late Frederick E. and Elva Baumgartner Schaefer.
Russ is survived by his beloved wife, the former Ethel Mae Jenkins. They were married on August 8, 1970.
Russ had retired after thirty-three years from West Pittsburgh Power Plant, where he had work in Maintenance.
He had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
Russ was a faithful and active member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He especially enjoyed attending the Tuesday Men’s Breakfast Prayer Group.
Russ had served as President and Treasurer for eighteen years on the Shenango Greens Board, where he lived. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, sudoku puzzles and online games. A loving husband, and father Russ’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Russ is survived by his two sons, Matthew R. Schaefer and Stephen B. Schaefer and his partner, Michael Lentz and Michael’s two sons, Ethan and Cole and Russ’s twin brother, Roger Schaefer.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his brother, Edward F. Schaefer.
Honoring his wishes the service is private. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
