Obituary for Paul A. Fazzone

Paul A. Fazzone, 89, of New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born on January 25, 1934, to Humbert A. and Rose (Biondi) Fazzone of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas P. Fazzone, sister-in-law Rosie (Menice) Fazzone, sister Venetia F. D’Amato, and brother-in-law Anthony D’Amato, all of New Castle.

Paul was the devoted and beloved husband of Sylvia (Strizzi) Fazzone with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Loving father of Aleta (and her partner John Ledbetter) of Venice, FL, and Jeffrey (and his partner Erin Breen) of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Paul was a 1951 graduate of New Castle High School and a 1955 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He entered college at the age of 17 and finished the 5-year engineering program in 4 years, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. From 1955 to 1957, he served in the Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade while stationed on the USS Oriskany based out of Alameda, CA. After his 2- year tour of duty in Japan, he was honorably discharged and began a successful 37-year career at Pennsylvania Power Company, retiring as Manager of Transmission and Distribution Engineering. Following his retirement from the utility company and given his vibrant math mind, he spent 10 years with H&R Block as a tax preparer. He ultimately opened his own business “Paul’s Tax Service” where he focused on helping seniors prepare their taxes. Paul was a devout Catholic and spent years as a volunteer at his parish, St. Camillus de Lellis, which is affiliated with the Holy Spirit Parish of Lawrence County.

Paul was a quiet, gentle, and humble man, admired for his sharp intellect, encyclopedic knowledge of facts and figures, and the ability to solve any problem or puzzle put before him. He was the ultimate DIY-er with an impressive collection of tools. We will miss his kind nature, quick wit, dry sense of humor, and wry smile.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Paul with a memorial contribution to the University of Notre Dame (giving.nd.edu6) or a Catholic charity of your choice.

The family would like to offer its deepest appreciation and gratitude to all of the caregivers at Clen-Moore Place Senior Living Community, an Enlivant facility. Paul received exceptional care, support and love throughout his stay as a resident of their community.
