Obituary for Jonathon P. Janis

Jonathon P. Janis, 74, of Painesville, Ohio passed away on April 13, 2023.

Born on August 10, 1948 in New Castle, Jonathon was the son of the late Peter and Margaret Black Janis.

He was married to his beloved wife, the former Helen Mastren. She survives at home.

Jonathon graduated from Youngstown State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in engineering. He went on to worked as an electrical engineer for Delphia Corp. in the Cortland and Warren Ohio area until he retired.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army for over twenty one years. Jonathon was the recipient of a Purple Heart and retired as a Major. He later served in the Reserves and National Guard as the Commanding Officer in Grove City and New Castle.

In addition to his wife, Jonathon is survived by his children, Helena Mullett (Jeff), Kathleen Hess (Keith), Eileen Janis-Larson (Nathan) and Tina Janis, his brother, Joseph Janis and sister, Kristine Janis, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jonathon was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Janis.

Visitation will be on Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.

The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Full Military Rites at 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

A service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. Father Carl Kish will officiate.
