Obituary for Eugene Smith
Eugene Smith, 67, of New Castle passed away the evening of March 31, 2023 at UPMC Jameson.
He was born in New Castle on September 30, 1955. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Smith and Mattie Dixon (James Hawkins).
Eugene was married to his beloved wife, the former Rhonda Jay. She survives at home.
He was a 1974 New Castle Senior High Graduate. Eugene worked as a Social Worker at the former Youth Development Center in New Castle.
He was a member of St. John United Holy Church.
In addition to his wife Rhonda, Eugene is survived by his sons, Jason Scott (Maureen) and Sean Scott (Brooke), seven grandchildren, Jason Scott, Jr. (Jorre Henderson), Monica, Maxwell, Jasmine, Sean, Jr., Julia and Ella, and one great-granddaughter, Luna Scott, one sister, Elisabeth Thompson (Leroy), seven brothers, George Smith, Johnnie Smith (Estrelita), James Hawkins, Jr., Bennie Hawkins (Florence), Timothy Hawkins, Jeremy Hawkins (Tina) and Mark Hawkins, his children by marriage, Tamarra Jay (Daniel), Jessica Jay Burgess (Dieter), Rondell Jay, one grandchild, Jajuan Jay and three great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Stacy Scott.
Visitation will be on Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A Homegoing Service will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Kenneth Bills, Jr. will officiate.
