Obituary for Costas "Gus" Benetas

Costas “Gus” Benetas, 68, of Shenango Township passed away the afternoon of April 7, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley.

Born on November 24, 1954 in New Castle Gus was the son of the late John and Zografia Costakis Benetas.

Gus married his beloved wife, the former Linda Toney on October 6, 1996. She survives at home.

Gus had been the owner and operator of the former Sun Grille. He currently owned and operated Mr. B’s Restaurants.

He was a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church.

Gus was a graduate of Shenango High School. He continued his education at Duquesne University, earning his Bachelor Degree in Education. Gus enjoyed playing cards with his friends and very much enjoyed working and interacting with all of his customers at his restaurant.

In addition to his wife, Gus is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Benetas and Bryon Benetas, his two step-children, Jason Alfera (Anna) and Amy Alfera, his sister, Anna Papa, his granddaughter, Hailey Benetas, his four step-grandchildren, his uncle and aunt, William and Mary Costakis and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A Trisagion Service will be held on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation will also be held on Wednesday at St. Elias Orthodox Church, 915 Lynn St. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Father Kevin Long officiating.

Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery.
